How To Be Compensated For A Work Injury

August 15th, 2011

If you are injured on the job you may be eligible to receive workmen’s or worker’s compensation. It is a benefit for employees to receive who are injured while performing their job duties.

Applying for worker’s compensation is different in each state but in most instances applying for it begins at the employer level. When you are injured on the job you first notify your direct supervisor who will then send you to an occupational medical facility or call 911 (if it is a life threatening accident).

A doctor determines the extent of your injuries and how long it will take to heal. They will also notify your employer if you need time off from work to recover and how much time is needed for recovery. The worker’s compensation benefits provide compensation for the lost wages and medical expenses while you recover.

Each state administers and provides oversight for the worker’s compensation laws of that state. Since the process will be different in each state you should educate yourself on your state’s worker’s compensation laws. This way you will know the requirements for and how to receive worker’s compensation in the event that you are injured while on the job.
